GreenLight in collaboration with Biodinâmica has developed and tested a set of indicators to identify areas of high conservation value (HCV) in the commercial forestry project area of Portucel (now named the Navigator Company).

Six criteria were assessed:
– Species diversity;
– Landscape-level ecosystems and mosaics;
– Ecosystems and habitats;
– Ecosystem services;
– Community needs;
– Cultural values;

A country and context-specific methodology for evaluation was developed and tested in the field. Management strategies and monitoring plans were developed for each indicator. Field testing and validation took place in several districts of Zambezia Province.
